| About Our Workshop Whether you're just starting your
research on a harpsichord or clavichord or you are ready to purchase, we can help.
Not only do we build the finest of instruments, we build individual instruments to suit
your needs. Each instrument we build is unique. Don't let this scare you
off. Completed instruments can be had for not much more than instruments built from
kits you may have seen elsewhere.
Harpsichord and clavichord building has been well
documented over the years. Each of our instruments is based on historical originals
of Italian, Flemish, English, French and German originals.
Our
instruments are built using historically suitable materials and techniques.
New technology and materials are used only to improve construction and durability.
Also unique to our approach in building instruments is the combining of the best
ideas from a vast array of original instruments and to introduce new ideas for improving
scaling, tone and tuning stability (for tuning stability we like to string many of our
instruments in all brass for instance).
Taking
this approach of combining the best design ideas with homage to history creates an
environment in our shop that allows us to prototype and constantly explore in our quest
for the ideal instruments.
The best way to approach your harpsichord or clavichord purchase is to read the articles
under Choosing a Harpsichord and then decide what types of
musical literature you would like to play most often. Then, contact us by phone or
email to discuss the type of instrument you are looking for. We would enjoy sharing
our thoughts on period keyboard instruments while helping your decide on best instrument
for your needs.
